The Dehesa
The dehesa is the habitat where we look after and breed our livestock.
It extends over more than 2.5 million hectares and it is placed on the southern area of Extremadura and north west of Andalusia.
This area has a Mediterranean forest characteristic by its climate and flora, which is mainly formed by holm oaks, cork oaks, rockrose bushes, broom, cistus, gorse and pasture. These plants constitute the in extensive feeding system of the livestock in the dehesa, made up by herbaceous species, leguminous plants, gramineae, pasture…
Our farms, located at the south of Extremadura, have a tree density of 30 to 50 holm oaks per hectare, where we usually take our pigs to feed them with acorns that holm oaks, cork oaks and gall oaks produce.
